My artistic process |

The works of Martine Chantraine, a Belgian painter based in Brussels, are a multitude of shapes, colours, people and places that symbolise many different situations and moods.
Her styles vary from purely figurative to impressionism, surrealism and pop art. In her own words: “I paint in oil and acrylic paintings on canvas and on synthetic mannequins. My subjects are often figurative, such as countryside landscapes, mountains, sea and water, houses, gardens, flowers, coffee tables, characters, men and women alone or in pairs, nudes, animals. On paper, cardboard and canvas I draw moving silhouettes, pin-ups, faces and sketches of places. Often I paint abstract, very colorful and geometric paintings which convey intense and sudden sensations and impressions. Like other artists, throughout my career I have had different periods and different styles. Even today after so many years, I search, experiment and discover. Over the years my paintings leave me with a little sadness but, in return, there is the pleasure felt by their new owners and the sympathetic words they address to me. The photos and the sensations experienced in the realization of my works animate my memories and stimulate me.” |
